Meet the Host!
Hi There!
I'm Charmaine – the host and organizer of Bungu Art Market! While I'm still relatively new to organizing markets, I've been running my stationery brand, MahchaMoon, for over five years now.

My love for stationery naturally led me into the world of crafting, creating, designing, and of course getting to make new friends!
When I first started selling my work in person, I quickly realized how limited the opportunities were. Many markets in Calgary are over saturated, making it hard for small artists to get in. On the other hand, conventions are fantastic for artists but they can be expensive to table at. Especially when you're just starting out.

That’s why I created Bungu, a happy medium between traditional markets and full-scale conventions. I wanted to build a space that feels like Artist's Alley, where emerging and independent artists can showcase their work, connect with others, and sell their creations without high costs or barriers to entry and better yet, free admission for everyone!

What is Bungu?
Bungu is a Japanese term for "Stationery", so in English terms, we stand for "Stationery Art Market".
Bungu Art Market acts as an independent artists alley that functions the same as any other market, but prioritizes artists that don't fit into the "standard" market niche. It’s a space where artists can truly showcase their creativity, connect with their audience, and share their work in an inclusive, supportive environment.

The idea behind Bungu Art Market was inspired by similar artist-run events across Canada, and more specifically, TomoArtsMrkt hosted in Edmonton, AB and Toronto, ON. As well as Minicomi which is hosted in Vancouver, BC. We encourage you to check them out too!

We can’t wait to welcome you to our next event!
