Meet the Maker
Hi There!
My name is Charmaine and I'm the host and organizer of Bungu Art Market! Although I am fairly new to the market industry, I have been running my stationery shop, Pocketbun Shop for over 3 years now.

I have a huge soft spot for crafting, creating, and all things of the sorts that stemmed from my love of stationery! When I first started selling my products in person, I quickly found that there just wasn't enough events and markets where I could sell my art, and that many Calgary markets are very saturated. However on the flip side, conventions are where artists can thrive, but unfortunately big shows like that only happen once a year and can also easily get out of budget, which is a luxury not everyone can afford. Especially when you're just starting out in person.
Because of this, I wanted a happy medium. I wanted to create a market that acted like an Artist's Alley, where small artists like me could express their artistic creativity and have the opportunity to sell and share their art in person without the need of applying to a whole convention -and better yet- with free admission!

What is Bungu?
Bungu is a Japanese term for "Stationery", so in English terms, we stand for "Stationery Art Market".
Bungu Art Market acts as an independent artists alley that functions the same as any other market, but prioritizes artists that don't fit into the "standard" market niche a chance to showcase our talents and products.

The creation of Bungu Art Market was inspired by like markets that are held across Canada, and more specifically, TomoArtsMrkt hosted in Edmonton, AB and Toronto, ON. as well as Minicomi which is hosted in Vancouver, BC. Check them out!

We are thrilled to become one of Calgary's first independent Artists Alley Market and hope that we'll see you at our next event!
